Participants will get an in-depth understanding of combat sports therapy. They will learn the skills and knowledge to become experts in treating combat athletes. Participants will be given a 360 degree understanding of injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and management for the combat athlete.

Combat Sports have been around for peoples entertainment for decades, however it is a realm that has not been overtly studied or well understood from a physiotherapy aspect. It is a realm where understanding the minute details matters. Rup has spent the last 8 years of his professional career working with combat sports and immersing himself in the combat community to better understand how to serve combat athletes.   

This has cultivated in him to working with 100s of combat athletes, prepare for thousands of events and work alongside companies such as the UFC.

MasterClass Breakdown

2 DAYS - COMMENCING OCTOBER 19 - 20

• 12 Hours of Theoretical and Practical Modules spaced across a weekend.

• On site case studies to reinforce knowledge and see real life application

• Participants will be provided resources and templates to use in their own clinical settings.

  • This will include a background of combat sports, especially those that will be covered within the masterclass.

    We will be creating a holistic view of what a combat athlete looks like.

  • Participants will be given data regarding common injury sites amongst athletes. This data presentation will be a collation of:

    • Available Emperical Evidence

    • Clinical Experience

  • This will be where the general framework of rehab and injury management for a clinician working with combat athletes will be introduced.

    From this framework, we will deep dive to understand different phases and their purposes during rehab.

  • Each combat sport has their own unique elements. With each sport, there are differing physical demands placed on athletes. This segment will aim to give you an understanding and appreciation for the differences between sports and their demands on athletes.

  • We will be breaking down key components of each sport and understanding key biomechanical requirements that athletes must possess to be able to complete tasks.

  • We will be covering frameworks and systems followed for conducting physiotherapy assessments and exploring the diagnostic funnel.

    Following this assessment process, we will learn how to use these findings to produce accurate and relevant diagnosis' for injured athletes. This is a cornerstone to any injury rehab and planning.

  • Here we will go through treatment modalities used and the clinical reasoning behind them.

    Participants will learn treatment frameworks and techniques, how to stagger treatments and understand what role it plays throughout a rehab journey.

    A practical component will be involved to ensure clinician proficiency.

  • A continuation of our Rehab Overview. This will include the exact framework used in clinic to rehab all our combat athletes.

    We will apply this framework to real life cases to demonstrate its practicality.

  • In a sport of high impact, brain trauma is of significant concern. We will learn the relevant concussion types, understand how to manage these appropriately and understand what anomalies to look out for in these cases.

  • We will cover all the nuances involved with combat athletes. This can include:

    • Athlete psychology

    • Multi-disciplinary team integration

    • Communication Styles

    • Optimising combat athletes

INTENDED OUTCOMES

Upon completion participants will:

• Understand the essential components in understanding Combat Athlete Injuries and Planning Injury Rehabilitation

• Learn how to conduct Systematic Assessments, Diagnosis’ and Treatments relevant to combat athletes

• Learn and Understand nuances involved in working with Combat Athletes

• Learn how to communicate in a multidisciplinary environment. 

There is also the potential to join on for future clinical mentoring & join a network of professionals involved in combat sports.
